Project Information
This project provided the refurbishment, alteration and conversion of the existing Speirs Centre.
The project aspires to become a civic centrepiece for Alloa, accommodating a wide range of cultural and community-based activities, including a modern library, council customer services information, the council registrar’s office, healthy living centre, an exhibition space for the local museum, business centre facilities and the local family history centre.
The refurbishment of the Speirs Centre, a Grade A listed building, replaced the redundant swimming pool with a new facility providing community access to a new library, payment areas and meeting spaces. The design intent was that the rear of the building was transformed to provide the new front face of the library and form a signature façade of a refurbished and refocused area for the town centre following the recent construction of the nearby railway station. The project received the RIAS 2015 Conservation and Climate Change Award.
